LISTRA
“Who is the true king of the Tuscan countryside? The vine or the cinghiale?”
Listra was created when two wine colleagues, one being Claudio Salvador, winemaker and original founder of Specialty Wine Co., decided to collaborate on a project to highlight the grape growing and winemaking capabilities of the Tuscan coast without breaking the bank. Depending on the vintage, the grapes are sourced from both Bolgheri and Maremma. The base of the blend will always be Cabernet Sauvignon, and could be blended with Petit Verdot, Merlot or Cabernet Franc. Ageing in oak barrels softens the wine, giving it balance with silky smooth tannins.
Cinghiale are the wild boar that roam the countryside of Tuscany and are used for the Tuscan gastronomic treasure, Pappardelle al Ragu di Cinghiale. In fact, you can often hear the gunshots in the background while visiting wineries, as the cinghiale are hunted for their precious meat. “Listra”, though not an exact translation, is the name of the cinghiale’s nest. The crown on our piggy’s head, well that’s for you to do some research and figure out.
